Even if some webshops allow searching for beds by size, searching many outlets at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret to the rescue! We scan many websites on the Internet and list thousands of products to let you get the one that fits perfectly.

How much free space does one need around the bed?
The focal point of a bedroom is the bed, but you need extra space around it to access it. But how much exactly? You will need about 75-90 cm extra room on both sides of the bed as well as at the foot, with the more space for more luxurious arrangements. In other words, for a 180 cm wide bed, you need a 330 cm wide space. If this is too much, you can save space by placing the bed against the wall on one side, especially if the bed is only used by one person. This can create a cozy corner, and would reduce the space needed by a 180 cm wide bed to 255 cm in width. In addition to this, it is possible to skip the extra room at the foot of the bed - you can put it flush against the wall, or you can place shelves there to save more space and further enhance the feeling of a safe, enclosed space. Choosing a sofa bed can also be a space-saving option.

How to use color theory when choosing a bed?
If you have the option to choose between different colors for a bed that fits your space, it is useful to know how different colors work together. The two main things to consider for everything color is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colors should ideally be coordinated in some way, so that the room looks like a unit, and not just a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and selecting colors that are either quite close to each other (as colors that are only different in intensity of lightness do go together, but small differences in tone or hue can also be fine), or quite far, like on different halves of the wheel (giving you complementary colors like red and green) or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Associations with and emotions connected to colors are also important, and there are many guides for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different in different cultures or just for different individuals. The associations are even often contradictory, which makes it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the color of nature, and is considered to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). Pink is considered to evoke kindness, romance, nurturing and calmness, while it was the choice for boys' and men's clothes over many decades. Red is considered to be the color of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge - a very wide range of emotions. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral color to allow the brain to rest. These associations are so varied that these guides all seem to boil down to just this: pause and consider what the color means for you.
From the history of furniture: Old-Fashioned Bedsteads Part 4

The next Figure (209) shows a Dutch bed chair,

@®y2 very rarely found, and of which few were brought Over here. This one is of maple, very handsomely inlaid in a floral pattern with satinwood. The hinges on the front of the chair show, and a piece comes from be neath the seat, the back lets down, arms and legs come together for its support, and the result is a long, nar- row bed. They are occasionally mentioned in inven tories, but this is the only one I ever saw. It is in the museum connected with the School of Art at Cooper Institute, New York City, and is in a state of perfect preservation.

Another style of bed made chiefly by the Dutch is given in Figure 210. As can be seen, it is nearly cov ered with a beautiful pattern in marquetry, the darker wood being maple, which contrasts very prettily with the light, inlaid woods. This bed is six feet six inches wide, but I have seen them in single widths also. One peculiarity of these beds, as well as many of French workmanship, is that the decoration is on one side only, the intention being that one side shall go next to the wall. Often the wood of the wail side is different from the rest of the bed, and recently I saw an exquisite, carved rosewood bedstead, with the wall side of deal, stained to match the colour of the rest. It seems a strange economy, and may be classed with making the lids of chests of pine, when the bodies of them were of oak.

Questions and answers

How do I measure the space to fit a bed in?

Measure both the width and the depth of the floor area where you'd like to put a bed. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. Make sure the tape is not diagonal, or else you would overestimate the available space. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to with your arms, ask someone else to help, or split what you need to measure up into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and reposition the tape to complete the measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, you can position a pointy object like a pen there instead. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't be able to go like pipes. Also don't forget to measure the height of the space wherever the ceiling is uneven like spaces under the stairs.

How do I order the 115 cm long beds by price?

On every search page there is the option to order the results by their price (ascending or descending), or relevance. Tap on the drop-down button just above the first item, after "Order by", to change the ordering. Sorting by relevance will show the bed at the top that contains most of the keywords in the search, while ordering by price shows the cheapest or most expensive bed first. Set the ordering to "Price: low to high" to see the cheapest 115 cm long beds on Furniture Ferret.

Our philosophy

We strive to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only have a small space they call home. We scour the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, bookcases, shoe cabinets, beds, tables, armchairs and so on by size, to find just the right one to go next to the window and turn the room into a dressing corner, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the kitchen to the bedroom, don't live around furniture - buy furniture that lives with you.

Have you heard? We also help customers in other countries. You can visit 115 cm long beds in Ireland, 46 inch long beds in Canada, 46 inch long beds in the US or 115 cm long beds in the UK.
