How do I measure the space to fit a bed in?
Measure the width and the depth of the floor area where you'd like to put a bed. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. Make sure the tape is not diagonal, or else you would overestimate the available space. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask someone else to assist, or divide what you need to measure up into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down partway through and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you measured on the floor or wall, and reposition the tape to complete the measurement. If you would not like to make a mark on your floor, you can position a pointy object like a pencil there. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't be able to go like electric sockets. Also don't forget to measure how high the space is wherever the ceiling is uneven.

What is the best color for a bed?
If you have the option to choose from different colors for a bed that fits your space, it is helpful to know how different colors work together. The two main things to consider for everything color is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colors in your home should ideally be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit instead of a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and selecting colors that are either quite close to each other (colors that are only different in lightness or intensity do go together, but slight differences in the actual tone or hue can also work), or relatively far, for example on opposite sides of the wheel (complementary colors like blue and yellow) or on different thirds (for example, red-green-blue). Associations with and emotions connected to colors are equally important. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different in different cultures or just for different people. The associations can even be contradictory, making it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is clearly the color of nature, and is said to evoke safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). Pink is said to evoke kindness, nurturing, romance and calmness, but it was the choice for boys' and men's clothes over many decades. Red is regarded as the color of friendship, energy, leadership, desire and revenge, which is a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it means danger and importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral color to allow the brain to rest. These associations point in so many directions that these guides seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and consider what the color means for you.

Is it possible to find beds using their width, height and length?
Finding beds in search engines on the web by size is not straightforward as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for beds to fit a given space, a bit smaller pieces would also fit. Even if some websites allow searching for beds by measurements, checking many shops at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret to the rescue! Our systems scan many websites on the Internet and list tens of thousands of items to let you get the one that fits perfectly.
How should I place a bed in a room?
The bed is the main furniture in a bedroom, but one needs some space around it to use it. But how much? One will need about 75-90 cm room either side of the bed as well as at its foot, with the more space corresponding to more luxurious set-ups. In other words, for a 130 cm wide bed, you would need a 280 cm wide floor space. If this is too much, you can save space by placing the bed against the wall on one side, especially if the bed is only used by one person. This can create a cozy corner, and decreases the space needed by a 130 cm wide bed to about 205 cm in width. In addition to this, it is possible to skip the extra room at the foot of the bed - you can put it flush against the wall, or you can place a chest of drawers there to save more space and further enhance the feeling of a safe, enclosed space. Choosing a foldable bed can also be a space-saving option.
From the history of furniture: Old-Fashioned Bedsteads Part 4

Ball-and-claw feet are sometimes come across, though these were usually confined to desks, bureaus, chairs, etc. There is a bed with such legs in the rooms of the Concord Antiquarian Society. It was part of the wedding outfit of Martha Tufts, who was married in 1774. The quaint old curtains are dropping with age, and still display men ploughing, cows and other animals in dull shades of blue and green. A choice example with ball-and-claw feet is given in Figure 208. The posts are unusually slender, and ornamented with brass balls and eagles on the tops.

Such beds had no springs, which were not invented till later, but were laced across with ropes, in many cases requiring the strength of the entire family to pull them tight enough. A mattress of straw was laid over the cords, and upon this was piled the feather-beds, — as many as the household could muster.

The next Figure (209) shows a Dutch bed chair,

@®y2 very rarely found, and of which few were brought Over here. This one is of maple, very handsomely inlaid in a floral pattern with satinwood. The hinges on the front of the chair show, and a piece comes from be neath the seat, the back lets down, arms and legs come together for its support, and the result is a long, nar- row bed. They are occasionally mentioned in inven tories, but this is the only one I ever saw. It is in the museum connected with the School of Art at Cooper Institute, New York City, and is in a state of perfect preservation.

How can I search on Furniture Ferret?

Searching on Furniture Ferret is simple. On mobile, tap on the search button in the header to show the search form. On desktop, just use the form on the left side. Then type any keywords you are searching for, for example, "desk", "TV stand" or "modern dresser". Our philosophy

We want to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only own a small space they call home. We search the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, storage units, beds, tables, sofas and so on by size, to find just the right one to go in that unused corner and turn it into a practical office, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the kitchen to the living room, don't live around furniture - choose furniture that lives with you.

Have you heard? We also operate in many other countries. You can look for 54 inch long beds in Canada, 54 inch long beds in the US or 135 cm long beds in the UK.
