How can I find tumble dryers by width, height and length?

Finding tumble dryers in search engines on the web by measurements is not straightforward as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for tumble dryers to fit a given space, a bit smaller pieces are also suitable. Even if some webshops allow searching for tumble dryers by size, checking many outlets at the same time is time-consuming. This is where Furniture Ferret comes handy. Our systems scan many outlets on the web and index tens of thousands of products to let you get the one that is just perfect.

How to measure the space to fit a tumble dryer in?

Measure the width and the depth of the area where you'd like to put a tumble dryer. The most accurate way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask someone else for help, or divide what you need to measure into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and reposition the tape to complete the measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pen there. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't be able to go like pipes. Also don't forget to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is uneven like in loft rooms.

Questions and answers

How much extra space is needed around a tumble dryer?

Most importantly, ensure that when positioning a tumble dryer you observe all the regulations and instructions that come with your tumble dryer, including leaving venting areas and safety clearances. There should also be enough space left, usually behind the appliance, for cables and pipes. But from a usability perspective, you will need enough room in front of a tumble dryer to be able to open its door completely and use it. The minimum clearance for this is likely to be 80 cm, so for a 60 cm deep tumble dryer you need 100 cm in total. Also keep in mind that in many cases you will need to open the door completely, to the side of the machine, so placing a tumble dryer next to a wall may cause problems.

How to use color theory when choosing a tumble dryer?

If you have the option to choose from different colors for a tumble dryer that fits your space and budget, it is helpful to know how different colors work together. The two things to consider when it comes to colors is balance and associations. Balance means that the colors in one's space should be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and selecting colors that are either quite close to each other (as colors that are only different in intensity of lightness do go together, but slight variations in tone can also be fine), or relatively far or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Other color combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains understand color. Associations with and emotions connected to colors are also important, and there is no shortage of guides for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different for different people. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is undoubtedly the color of nature, and is considered to evoke safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow). Pink is said to evoke kindness, nurturing, romance and calmness, but it was the choice for masculine clothing over many decades. Red is considered to be the color of friendship, energy, leadership, desire and revenge, which is a very wide range of emotions. But it is clear that in nature, it means danger and importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral color to allow the eye to rest. These emotions point in so many different directions that these guides all seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and see what the color means for you.

Our philosophy

We want to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only have a small space they call home. We scour the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, bookshelves, storage units, beds, sofas and so on by size and color, to find just the right piece to go next to the window and turn the room into a practical office, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the kitchen to the bedroom, don't just live around furniture - buy furniture that lives with you.
