What is the best way to measure the space to fit a TV in?
Measure the width and the depth of the floor area where you'd like to put a TV. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start of the tape down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the opposite edge. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask a friend to assist, or split what you need to measure up into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down partway through and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you measured on the floor or wall, and reposition the tape to complete the measurement. If you would not like to make a mark on your floor, you can position a pointy object like a screwdriver there instead. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't go like skirting boards. Also it may be necessary to measure the height of the space wherever the ceiling is low.

Questions and answers

How can one coordinate colors?

The color scheme in one's room can be a bit accidental, but it has considerable effect on the feelings you get from your space. The two things to consider for everything color is balance and associations. Balance means that the colors in one's home should ideally be coordinated in some way, so that it looks like a unit, and not just a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and selecting colors that are either quite close to each other (colors that are only different in intensity of lightness always go together, but slight variations in hue can also work), or quite far, for example on opposite sides of the wheel (giving you complementary colors like red and green). Other color combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains understand color. Associations with and emotions connected to colors are equally important, and there are many guides for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. In all likelihood these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different in different cultures or just for different people. The associations are even often contradictory, making it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is clearly the color of nature, and is said to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow instead). Yellow is always a shouty color and can mean brightness, warmth, attention and energy (likely evoking the sun), except when it is dark and becomes brown, when it is said to be relaxing and comfortable. Red is considered to be the color of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and anger, which is a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it means danger or importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral color to allow the brain to rest. These emotions are so varied that these guidelines seem to boil down to just this: pause and see what the color means for you.

Where to place a TV?

There are multiple different pieces of advice being mentioned regarding the best placement of one's TV, and much comes down to the available space and your perference. However, it is universally accepted that the ideal height of a TV is at eye level, which means that the middle of the set should align with one's eyes when sitting. This avoids straining our necks when watching the screen. The best viewing distance is about 3 times the height of the television - this benefits our eyes as it helps to prevent eye strain. For example, for a 95 cm wide television, which is approximately equivalent to a 42" diagonal screen size, the ideal distance to the couch is 160 cm. In general, higher resolution (e.g. 4K) televisions can be placed closer.

Our philosophy

We want to allow every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We search the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, shoe cabinets, beds, tables, sofas and so on by size, to find just the right piece for you to go next to the window and turn the room into some closet space, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't live around furniture - buy furniture that lives with you.

We also help customers in many other countries. You can visit 38 inch wide TVs in the US or 95 cm wide TVs in the UK.
