How can I coordinate colors?
The color scheme in your home can be a result of necessity, but it has considerable effect on the feelings you get from your home. The two main things to consider when it comes to colors is balance and associations. Balance means that the colors should be coordinated in some way, so that it looks like a unit instead of a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and going for colors that are either quite close to each other (as colors that are only different in lightness or intensity do go together, but small variations in tone can also work), or relatively far, for example on different halves of the wheel (giving you complementary colors like blue and yellow). Other color combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains understand color. Associations with and emotions connected to colors are equally important, and there is no shortage of lists for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different in different cultures or just for different individuals. The associations can even be contradictory, making it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is undoubtedly the color of nature, and is considered to be connected to safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). White can be associated with peacefulness, innocence, cleanliness and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is regarded as the color of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge, which is a very wide range of emotions. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so you probably need to put it next to a calm color to allow the eye to rest. These emotions point in so many directions that these guidelines all seem to boil down to just this: pause and see what the color means for you.

How much space must one leave in front of a desk?
Finding the right place for a desk needs a larger area than just the size of the item itself, as you will need about 20-30 in behind the chair. Reserving this space means that you will be able to push the chair back to stand up, or swivel to access a cabinet or shelves behind you. So altogether you will need an area 40 in deep free in front of a desk. In other words, 64 in deep desks would require a 104 in deep floor space in total. It doesn't mean that the reserved area behind the chair is dead space, though, as it can also be used as the area you need to access drawers, shelves or a filing cabinet.
How can I find desks by size?
Finding desks in search engines on the Internet by measurements is difficult as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for desks to fit a given space, somewhat shallower pieces are also suitable. Even if some webshops allow searching for desks by measurements, searching many webshops at the same time needs a different solution. This is where Furniture Ferret comes to the rescue. We scan many websites and index thousands of products to allow you to get the one that fits perfectly.
From the history of furniture: Desks And Secretaries Part 2

I have spoken of the fact that much of the furniture of the late eighteenth century was other than what it appeared. Under this head I give a description taken

" from Sheraton's book, of a Lady's Cabinet Dressing Table." This piece is not inappropriate here, as it has writing materials also in it:

"This table contains every requisite for a lady to dress at. The style of finishing them is somewhat neat and elegant. With respect to the manufacturing part, and what it contains, these may be learned from the piece itself when open. When the washing-drawer is in, a slider which is above it may be drawn out to write on. The ink and stand are in the right-hand drawer under the centre dressing-glass. Behind the drapery, which is tacked to a rabbet, and fringed or gimped to cover the nails, is a shelf on which may stand any vessel to receive the dirty water. Above the drapery are tambour cupboards, one at each end and one in the middle. Above the tambour at each end are real drawers, which are fitted up to hold every necessary article for dressing. The drawers in the cabinet part are intended to hold all the ornaments of dress, as rings, drops, etc. Behind the centre glass is drapery; it may be real to suit the portion below, or it may be painted to match. . .

Questions and answers

How to measure the space to fit a desk in?

Measure both the width and the depth of the floor space where you'd like to place a desk. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start of the tape down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. Make sure the tape is not diagonal, as otherwise you would overestimate the available space. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask a friend for help, or divide the distance into multiple parts. You can do this by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pair of scissors there instead. Don't forget to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't go like electric sockets. Also it may be necessary to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is low like in loft rooms.

How do I find the cheapest 64 inch deep desks on Furniture Ferret?

On every search page there is an option to order the results by their price (ascending or descending), or relevance. Click or tap on the button just above the first result, after "Order by", to change the ordering. Sorting by relevance shows the desk at the top that matches most of the keywords in the search, while sorting by price will show the cheapest or most expensive desk first. Set the order to "Price: low to high" to see the cheapest 64 inch deep desks available on Furniture Ferret.

Our philosophy

We strive to allow every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small space they call home. We scour the Internet to search among thousands of desks, cabinets, bookcases, shoe cabinets, beds, tables, armchairs and so on by size, to find just the right piece for you to go under the stairs to finally get a dressing corner, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the hall to the living room, don't live around furniture - get furniture that lives with you.

We are also present in other countries. You can visit 64 inch deep desks in the US or 160 cm deep desks in Australia.
