How much free space do I have to leave in front of a table?
Placing a table needs a larger area than just the size of the item itself, as you will also need about 20-30 in behind the chair. Reserving this space means that you can easily push the chair back to stand up, or swivel to access a credenza or bookshelf behind you. Together with the chair, this means keeping a space 40 in deep free in front of a table. For example, 25 in deep tables would need a 65 in deep space in total. This doesn't mean that the room behind the chair needs to be dead space, though, as it can also be used as the area you need to access drawers, shelves or a filing cabinet.

How to use color theory when choosing a table?
If you can choose between different colors for a table that fits your space, it is helpful to know what the effects of the different colors are. The two main things to consider when it comes to colors is balance and associations. Balance means that the colors should ideally be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit, and not just a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a color wheel, and choosing colors that are either quite close to each other (colors that are only different in intensity of lightness always go together, but slight variations in the actual tone or hue can also work), or quite far, for example on different halves of the wheel (complementary colors like blue and yellow) or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Other color combinations are likely be somewhat jarring just based on how our eyes and brains understand color. Associations with and emotions connected to colors are equally important to keep in mind, and there are many guides for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different in different cultures or just for different people. The associations are even often contradictory, which makes it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is undoubtedly the color of nature, and is said to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow instead). White can be associated with peacefulness, innocence, cleanliness and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is regarded as the color of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and anger - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so it should be put next to a neutral color to allow the brain to rest. These associations point in so many different directions that these guides seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and see what the color means for you.

From the history of furniture: The history of tables

2. Draw Table with heavy carved bulbous legs and inlaid rails. (Oak.) Elizabethan Period. Second half of 16th Century.

This table illustrates a very interesting type evolved in the early 16th century, being made to extend. It is known as a draw-table, and the extending leaves, when the table is closed, are under the main top, as shown in the illustration, and when required are drawn out and supported by bearers, these being tapered so that when. extended they bring the leaves up to the height of the main top, which drops in place.

A plain Jacobean table is shown in Fig. 3, in which it will be noticed that the legs have lost their heavy bulbous shape, although the general structure is in many other respects very similar. Both the plain table shown in this example and the draw type were made in the 17th century.

3. Oak Table having turned legs and "S" strap and leaf carving in the frieze. Jacobean Period. First half of 17th Century.

The draw-table in Fig. 4 is illustrative of a Charles II table, in which the bulbous leg has been revived, though with an altered contour. The table exhibits Dutch influence, a feeling which was the result of the return of Charles II from the Continent.

4. Draw Table with inlaid top and bulbous legs. The design shows Dutch influence. (Oak.) Charles II Period. Second half of 17th Century.

A type of table made in considerable numbers during the 17th century was the gate leg, of which Fig. 5 is an example. They were usually made of oak, although towards the end of the century walnut was more frequently used. The majority of the walnut tables, however, were of rather different formation.

Questions and answers

What is a good price for a table?

You can check what the expected price of a product in this section is by looking at the median value. The median price is 1,759 Canadian dollars which means that exactly half of the tables costs more and half costs less. Most of the tables in this section cost from $117.50 to 4,554 Canadian dollars. This means that 9/10 of the products are between the two figures. $1,996.79 is the average price of tables in this category.

How do I measure the space to fit a table in?

Measure both the width and the depth of the space where you'd like to place a table. The most accurate way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask someone else for help, or split the distance up into multiple parts. You can do this by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pencil there instead. Don't forget to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't go like pipes. Also it may be necessary to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is low like spaces under the stairs.

Our philosophy

We aim to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only have a small area they call home. We search the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, storage units, beds, tables, sofas and so on by size, to find just the right one for you to go next to the bed and turn the room into some closet space, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the hall to the bedroom, don't live around furniture - buy furniture that lives with you.

Have you heard? We also operate in many other regions. You can visit 200 cm wide tables in Ireland, 80 inch wide tables in the US, 200 cm wide tables in the UK or 200 cm wide tables in Australia.
