If you can choose between different colours for an armoire that fits your space, it is helpful to know how different colours work together. The two main things to consider for everything colour is balance and associations. Balance means that the colours in your space should ideally be coordinated, so that the room looks like a unit instead of a random collection of elements. Usual techniques to achieve this are considering a colour wheel, and choosing colours that are either quite close to each other (colours that are only different in intensity of lightness do go together, but slight differences in hue can also work), or quite far, like on different halves of the wheel (giving you complementary colours like blue and yellow) or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Associations with and emotions connected to colours are also important to keep in mind. In all likelihood these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different for different people. The associations can even be contradictory, which makes it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the colour of nature, and is said to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow). White can be associated with peacefulness, innocence, cleanliness and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is considered to be the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and anger - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger and importance, so you probably need to put it next to a calm colour to allow the eye to rest. These emotions point in so many directions that these guidelines all seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and see what the colour means for you.
Finding armoires in search engines on the web by measurements is difficult as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for armoires to fit a given space, a bit narrower pieces would also be suitable. Even if some websites allow searching for armoires by size, searching many webshops at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret scour many webshops and index tens of thousands of products to let you find the one that is just perfect.
Indeed, the true collector, when once embarked on his career, is seldom content to keep in one narrow path, but strays out in many directions, and finds pleasure in them all. In support of this theory I am tempted to quote a letter from an unknown correspondent, aa'Iio finds much under her own roof, and is not only interested herself, but has managed to interest others. The letter begins, " Dear Friend," and after some kind and complimentary remarks, goes on as follows:
"I have made a fine collection of quaint old things from 'up garret ' and elsewhere at home. Father's ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Ipswich, Mass., and my father is now hVing at the age of ninety years. My mother's family had a grant of three thousand acres in Orange County, N. Y., from Queen Anne, where they were all born, lived, and died, from that time; even my mother was born there. From these Huguenots I have little else than a ' Bull's Eye ' watch, but from a generation later have linen coverlets, bullet-mould, powder-horn, etc., and shoe-buckles of General Washington's time. Now I sigh thinking of lovely, old things sold to the 'Junk man.' Every time I read anything you have written, go ' a-rummaging '
"The family all laugh at me, and call me 'Old Antique,' but they were interested enough, notice, when I found an original ' led-pencil ' and showed them the evolution of the Pen. First a quill, from a desk of 1755, the feather part all moth-eaten, then steel pens dedicated to Washington, Webster, Croton Water-works celebration in 1845, Free Mason, etc., down to our Own Fountain pen. Such queer handles as there were among them! I send this sketch of Pewter Shaving-box and soap-box with queer cake of soap, old and dried. Not the one stolen in 1777, I hope ! "
We strive to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only own a small space they call home. We scan dozens of online shops for thousands of desks, cabinets, bookcases, storage units, beds, sofabeds and so on by size and colour, to find just the right one for you to go next to the bed and turn the room into some closet space, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the kitchen to the bedroom, don't just live next to furniture - choose furniture that lives with you.
We are also present in many other countries. You can visit 24 inch deep armoires in the US.
