How to choose a colour for a fridge?

Furniture Ferret: The colour scheme in your room can be a result of necessity, but it has considerable effect on how you feel in your home. The two things to consider when it comes to colours is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colours should be coordinated, so that the room looks like a unit. This can be achieved by using a colour wheel, and selecting colours that are either quite close to each other (as colours that are only different in lightness or intensity do go together, but slight differences in tone or hue can also be fine), or quite far. Associations with and emotions connected to colours are equally important. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different for different individuals. The associations are even often contradictory, making it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the colour of nature, and is said to evoke safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow). Yellow is always a shouty colour and can mean warmth, brightness, energy and attention (likely because of the sun), except when it is dark and becomes brown, when it is thought to be relaxing and comfortable. Red is regarded as the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it means danger and importance, so it should be put next to a calm colour to allow the brain to rest. These emotions point in so many different directions that these guidelines all seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and think what the colour means for you.

Questions and answers

How much extra room does one need around a fridge?

First of all, ensure that when positioning a fridge you observe all the regulations and instructions that come with the fridge, including allowing for venting areas and safety clearances. There must also be enough room left for plugs or pipes. But from strictly a usability point of view, you will need enough space in front of a fridge to be able to open its door fully and use it. The minimum clearance for this is likely to be 80 cm, so for a 70 cm deep fridge you need 110 cm in total. Also keep in mind that often you will need to open the door completely, to the side of the machine, so placing a fridge next to a wall may not work.

Is it possible to find fridges using their width, height and length?

Finding fridges in search engines on the Internet by measurements is difficult as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for fridges to fit a given space, a bit narrower pieces are also suitable. Even if some shops allow searching for fridges by size, searching many websites at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret scour many shops on the web and index tens of thousands of products so you are able to buy the one that is just perfect.

Our philosophy

We aim to allow every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We scan dozens of online shops for thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, storage units, beds, armchairs and more by size and colour, to find just the right piece to go next to the bed and turn the room into a practical office, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the hall to the living room, don't just live next to furniture - get furniture that lives with you.

Did you know? We are also present in many other regions. You can look for blue fridges in the US.
