What is the best colour for a hob?

The two things to consider for everything colour is balance and associations. Balance means that the colours should ideally be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit. Usual techniques to achieve this are considering a colour wheel, and going for colours that are either quite close to each other, or relatively far, for example on opposite sides of the wheel (giving you complementary colours like blue and yellow). Other colour combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains understand colour. Associations with and emotions connected to colours are equally important, and there is no shortage of guides for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. In all likelihood these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different in different cultures or for different individuals. The associations are even often contradictory, which makes it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is undoubtedly the colour of nature, and is considered to evoke safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow instead). White can be associated with peacefulness, cleanliness, innocence and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is regarded as the colour of friendship, energy, leadership, desire and anger - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger and importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral colour to allow the eye to rest. These associations are so different that these guidelines seem to boil down to just this: pause and consider what the colour means for you.

Questions and answers

How can one search for hobs using their width, height and length?

Finding hobs in search engines on the Internet by measurements is not easy as search engines are best at finding words only. Also, when searching for hobs to fit a given space, a bit narrower pieces would also fit. Even if some webshops allow searching for hobs by size, checking many webshops at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret to the rescue! Our systems scan many shops on the web and index thousands of items to allow you to get the one that is just perfect.

How do I search for hobs on Furniture Ferret?

Searching on Furniture Ferret is simple. Click or tap on the search button in the header in the top right corner, then type any keywords you are looking for, like "table", "shoe storage" or "rustic stool". Drag the two handles on the sliders to enter the highest and lowest possible values for the width, height and depth (length) and the price you are looking for. Click on "Go!" to get the results.

Our philosophy

We strive to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We search the Internet for thousands of tables, cabinets, bookshelves, shoe cabinets, beds, sofas and so on by size, to find just the right one for you to go under the stairs to finally get a practical office, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't just live next to furniture - have furniture that lives with you.
