How to use colour psychology when choosing a PC desk?

Furniture Ferret: The two things to consider when it comes to colours is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colours in your space should ideally be coordinated in some way, so that the space looks like a unit. Usual techniques to achieve this are considering a colour wheel, and choosing colours that are either quite close to each other, or relatively far. Associations with and emotions connected to colours are equally important. It is quite probable that these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different for different individuals. The associations can even be contradictory, making it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is undoubtedly the colour of nature, and is considered to be connected to safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow instead). Yellow is always a shouty colour and can evoke brightness, warmth, energy and attention (likely because of the sun), except when it is dark and becomes brown, when it is thought to be a sign of comfort and relaxation. Red is regarded as the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge, which is a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so it should be put next to a neutral colour to allow the brain to rest. These associations point in so many different directions that these guidelines all seem to boil down to just this: pause and think what the colour means for you.

Questions and answers

How much free space does one have to leave in front of a PC desk?

Placing a PC desk needs a larger area than just the size of the item itself, as you will also need approx. 50-76 cm behind the chair. Keeping this area free means that you can push the chair back to get up, or in an office swivel to reach a credenza or shelves behind you. Together with the chair, this means keeping an area 100 cm deep free in front of a PC desk. In other words, 130 cm deep computer and PC desks would need a 230 cm deep floor space in total. This doesn't mean that the reserved room behind the chair needs to be dead space, though, as it can double as the area you need to get to drawers, shelves or a filing cabinet.

How do I search for computer and PC desks on Furniture Ferret?

Searching on Furniture Ferret is simple. Click or tap on the search button in the header in the top right corner, then edit or add any keywords you would like to search for, like "bed", "cabinet with mirror" or "modern dresser". Use the sliders to specify the highest and lowest possible values for the width, height and depth (length) and the price you are looking for. Tap "Go!" to get the results.

Is it possible to search for computer and PC desks by width, height and length?

Finding computer and PC desks in search engines on the web by measurements is not easy as search engines are best at finding text only. Also, when searching for computer and PC desks to fit a given space, a bit shallower items are also suitable. Even if some outlets allow searching for computer and PC desks by size, checking many websites at the same time needs a different solution. Furniture Ferret scour many shops and index thousands of products so you are able to get the one that is just perfect.

Our philosophy

We want every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We scan multiple webshops for thousands of desks, cabinets, bookshelves, storage units, beds, armchairs and so on by size, to find just the right one to go next to the bed and turn the room into some closet space, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't live next to furniture - buy furniture that lives with you.

Have you heard? We also help customers in other countries. You can look for “bureaux d'ordinateur - profondeur 130 cm” in France, 130cm deep computer and pc desks in Australia or 52 inch deep computer desks in the US.
