How can I find radiators and towel rails using their width, height and length?

Furniture Ferret: Finding radiators and towel rails in search engines on the Internet by size is not easy as search engines are best at finding text only. Also, when searching for radiators and towel rails to fit a given space, slightly shallower pieces would also suit. Even if some webshops allow searching for radiators and towel rails by measurements, searching many outlets at the same time needs a different solution. Our systems scour many outlets on the Internet and list thousands of products so you can get the one that is just perfect.

How do I measure the space to fit a radiator in?

Furniture Ferret: Measure the width and the depth of the floor space where you'd like to put a radiator. The most accurate way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask someone else to help, or split the distance into multiple parts. You can do this by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pencil there instead. Don't forget to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't go like skirting boards. Also it may be necessary to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is uneven like in loft rooms.

Questions and answers

What is the best colour for a radiator?

The colour scheme in your room can be a bit accidental, but it has a great effect on how you feel in your home. The two things to consider for everything colour is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colours should ideally be coordinated in some way, so that the space looks like a unit instead of a random collection of elements. Usual techniques to achieve this are considering a colour wheel, and selecting colours that are either quite close to each other (colours that are only different in intensity of lightness always go together, but small differences in tone or hue can also work), or relatively far, like on opposite sides of the wheel (complementary colours like blue and yellow) or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Associations with and emotions connected to colours are also important, and there are many lists for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different for different individuals. The associations are even often contradictory, which makes it even more difficult to use them as a guide. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the colour of nature, and is considered to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). White can be associated with peacefulness, cleanliness, innocence and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is considered to be the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and anger, which is a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it means danger and importance, so it should be put next to a neutral colour to allow the eye to rest. These associations point in so many different directions that these guides all seem to boil down to just this: pause and think what the colour means for you.

Our philosophy

We aim to allow every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small space they call home. We search the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, bookshelves, shoe cabinets, beds, sofabeds and more by size, to find just the right one to go next to the bed and turn the room into a dressing corner, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the kitchen to the living room, don't just live around furniture - choose furniture that lives with you.
