What is the best way to measure the space to fit a radiator in?

Furniture Ferret: Measure the width and the depth of the floor area where you'd like to put a radiator. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. Make sure the tape is not diagonal, as otherwise you get a value larger than the reality. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to, ask someone else for help, or split what you need to measure into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on the floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pair of scissors there instead. You should avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't be able to go like decorative strips. Also it may be necessary to measure how high the space is wherever the ceiling is low.

How can I choose a colour for a radiator?

Furniture Ferret: The colour scheme in your home can be a result of necessity, but it has considerable effect on how you feel in your space. The two main things to consider for everything colour is balance and associations. Balance means that the colours in your room should ideally be coordinated in some way, so that the room looks like a unit, and not just a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a colour wheel, and choosing colours that are either quite close to each other (colours that are only different in lightness or intensity do go together, but small differences in the actual tone can also be fine), or relatively far, for example on opposite sides of the wheel (giving you complementary colours like blue and yellow) or on different thirds (for example, red-green-blue). Other colour combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains process colour. Associations with and emotions connected to colours are equally important to keep in mind. In all likelihood these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different for different people. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the colour of nature, and is said to evoke safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures this latter is yellow instead). Yellow is always a shouty colour and can mean brightness, warmth, energy and attention (likely evoking the sun), except when it is dark and becomes brown, when it is thought to be relaxing and comfortable. Red is considered to be the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so you probably need to put it next to a neutral colour to allow the eye to rest. These emotions point in so many directions that these guidelines all seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and see what the colour means for you.

Our philosophy

We aim to allow every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We scan multiple webshops for thousands of tables, cabinets, bookshelves, storage units, beds, sofabeds and so on by size, to find just the right piece to go in that unused corner and turn it into a dressing corner, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't live around furniture - get furniture that lives with you.
