What is the depth of a kitchen sink?

Furniture Ferret: It is difficult to apply the usual labels of height and depth to kitchen sinks, as they are difficult to interpet. This is because kitchen sinks are primarily more flat products, so what should their height mean? Morerover, they have a depth horizontally meaning how far they reach away from you, but they are also bowl-shaped and have a depth vertically, too. We have chosen to use the labels we found most often on the shops we link to, so if you are buying shallow 35cm deep kitchen sinks, please note that depth is the horizontal size, just like the depth of a desk or shelf, and height is the vertical measurement, meaning how much the sink goes down, that is, how 'deep' it is. (Unless the kitchen sink comes with a cabinet when the height is the total height of the kitchen sink.)

What is the best way to measure the space to fit a kitchen sink in?

Furniture Ferret: Measure both the width and the depth of the area where you'd like to put a kitchen sink. The most accurate way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the beginning of the tape down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to with your arms, ask someone else to assist, or divide the distance into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you would not like to make a mark on the floor, try putting down a pointy object like a pen there. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't be able to go like skirting boards. Also it may be necessary to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is uneven like spaces under the stairs.

How to choose the best colour for a kitchen sink?

Furniture Ferret: The colour scheme in your space can be a bit accidental, but it has a great effect on the feelings you get from your space. The two main things to consider for everything colour is balance and associations. Balance means that the colours in your room should be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit, and not just a random collection of elements. This can be achieved by using a colour wheel, and selecting colours that are either quite close to each other, or relatively far or on different thirds (for example, cyan-orange-purple). Other colour combinations are likely be somewhat jarring because of how our eyes and brains process colour. Associations with and emotions connected to colours are also important. It is quite probable that these emotions are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be very different in different cultures or for different people. Blue is often connected to productivity, but also stability, calmness and even sadness. Green is clearly the colour of nature, and is considered to be associated with safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). White can be connected to peacefulness, innocence, cleanliness and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is thought of as the colour of friendship, willpower, leadership, desire and revenge - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so it should be put next to a neutral colour to allow the brain to rest. These emotions are so different that these guides seem to boil down to just one piece of advice: pause and think what the colour means for you.

Our philosophy

We aim to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only own a small space they call home. We scour the Internet for thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, storage units, beds, sofabeds and more by size and colour, to find just the right piece to go in that unused corner and turn it into some closet space, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't just live next to furniture - choose furniture that lives with you.
