How to measure the space to fit a shoe cabinet in?

Furniture Ferret: Measure the width and the depth of the space where you'd like to place a shoe cabinet. The easiest way is to use a measuring tape. Hold the start of the tape down at the edge of the area, and let it run to the other edge. Make sure the tape is not diagonal, or else you get a value larger than the reality. If the distance is larger than what you can stretch to with your arms, ask someone else for help, or split the distance up into multiple parts. This can be done by either holding the tape down halfway and continuing running it while letting the first end go, or by marking how far you have measured on the floor or wall, and start a new measurement. If you want to avoid drawing on your floor, try putting down a pointy object like a screwdriver there instead. Make sure to avoid dead places where the piece of furniture won't go like electric sockets. Also it may be necessary to take the height of the space and the item into account wherever the ceiling is uneven.

Questions and answers

How much room should one leave in front of a shoe cabinet?

So that a shoe cabinet would be usable, it needs more space than just its proper size. You have to be able to access it and be in front of it to access documents and other items stored on a shoe cabinet, and if a shoe cabinet has doors, they need to be able to be opened fully. In general, you will need 40-60 cm in front of a shoe cabinet for access. This means, for example, a shoe cabinet that is 40 cm deep needs at least 80 cm space. The good news is that this extra space does not need to be exclusive: access spaces of two or more pieces of furniture can overlap.

How do I find the least expensive 200cm wide shoe cabinets on Furniture Ferret?

On the result pages there is the option to order the results by their price (lowest or highest first), or relevance. Click or tap on the drop-down button just above the first result, after "Order by", to change the ordering. Sorting by relevance shows the shoe cabinet at the top that contains most of the keywords in the search, while sorting by price will show the least expensive or most expensive shoe cabinet at the top. You can set the ordering to "Price: low to high" to see the cheapest 200cm wide shoe cabinets on Furniture Ferret.

Our philosophy

We want every one of us to live comfortably even if they only own a small area they call home. We scour the Internet to search among thousands of desks, cabinets, shelves, shoe cabinets, beds, armchairs and so on by size, to find just the right one to go under the stairs to finally get a practical office, or to find that extra long sofa that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the bedroom door. From the hall to the bathroom, don't just live next to furniture - have furniture that lives with you.
