How should I place the bed in a bedroom?

Furniture Ferret: The bed is the main furniture in any bedroom, but one needs some space around it to access it. But how much? You will need about 30-36 in room either side of the bed as well as at the foot, with the more space corresponding to more relaxed arrangements. In other words, for a 50 in wide bed, you need a 110 in wide floor space. If this is too much, you can save space by pushing the bed against the wall on one side, especially if the bed is only used by one person. This can create a cozy corner, and would reduce the space needed by a 50 in wide bed to about 80 in in width. Equally, it is possible not to have any extra space at the foot of the bed - you can put it flush against the wall, or you can place a cabinet there to save space and further enhance the feeling of a safe, enclosed space. Choosing a foldable bed can be a space saver option.

How can I coordinate colors?

Furniture Ferret: If you have the option to choose from different colors for a bed that fits your space and budget, it is helpful to know how different colors work together. The two main things to consider for everything color is balance and associations. Balance simply means that the colors in your space should be coordinated, so that it looks like a unit. Usual techniques to achieve this are considering a color wheel, and choosing colors that are either quite close to each other, or relatively far. Associations with and emotions connected to colors are also important, and there is no shortage of lists for these from those by 19th-century Impressionist painters to modern interior design guides. It is quite probable that these associations are cultural and learnt, which means that they can be quite different in different cultures or for different people. Blue is often associated with productivity, but also calmness, stability and even sadness. Green is clearly the color of nature, and is considered to be connected to safety, luck and envy (though in other cultures envy is yellow). White can be associated with peacefulness, innocence, cleanliness and emptiness, and, for example, mourning in India. Red is considered to be the color of friendship, energy, leadership, desire and revenge - a very wide range of feelings. But it is clear that in nature, it signals danger or importance, so you probably need to put it next to a calm color to allow the eye to rest. These emotions are so different that these guidelines seem to boil down to just this: pause and consider what the color means for you.

Our philosophy

We strive to allow everyone to live comfortably even if they only have a small space they call home. We scour the Internet for thousands of tables, cabinets, bookcases, shoe cabinets, beds, armchairs and so on by size and color, to find just the right piece to go next to the window and turn the room into some closet space, or to find that extra long bed that is still narrow enough to squeeze through the door. From the kitchen to the living room, don't just live around furniture - have furniture that lives with you.

Have you heard? We also operate in other countries. You can visit 170cm long beds in the UK.
